Healthcare lead generation for clinics isn’t about running ads everywhere. For some clinics Google is a gold mine. For others it’s money down the drain. It depends on what you treat and where you are.
Healthcare lead generation starts with two questions
01 · Specialty
Do people search for what you treat?
Hemorrhoids, a broken tooth, implants. People type these into Google every day. Bariatric surgery, almost nobody does. The need is there, people just don’t search for the surgery.
02 · Location
Where are you, and who else is bidding?
In a big city every clinic around you is bidding on the same searches, so clicks cost more. In a smaller town there are fewer searches, but fewer clinics fighting over them, and one Facebook ad can cover the whole area.
Put those two answers together and you know where your patients actually are. That’s where the budget goes, and nowhere else.

Google, one serviceClicks cost more, so we stay tight: one treatment, one page, and ads only while someone can answer the phone.
Google is a gold minePeople are searching and few clinics are bidding. This is where we spend first.
Meta, then TikTokFind the people who have the problem while they scroll, because they’re never going to search for it.
Meta covers the townOne audience can cover the whole area, so a small budget reaches everyone who matters.
So here’s how each platform holds up. ↓
03Google
PPC / Google Ads for Clinics
In healthcare lead generation, Google catches people who already know what they want. They have a problem, they type it in, and you show up first. You pay when they click, and if it’s set up right a good chunk of those clicks turn into calls and booked appointments.
We had a colorectal practice getting patients from referrals and nothing at all from digital. Their SEO was built around proctology, and barely anyone searches that. So we ran Google Ads on hemorrhoids and piles, the words people actually type, and optimised for booked appointments and calls. Slowly but surely the bookings came in, from a channel that had brought them nobody before.
Ad spend a month, one service
$1,200
Usually enough to learn what books in your area without putting the whole practice on the line in month one.
Per booking or call
$10 to $50
Where you land depends on your area, who else is bidding, and how much explaining the treatment needs.
One thing catches clinics out. Google’s personalized advertising policy doesn’t let you follow people around with ads based on a health condition. You get one shot at the search, which is why the page they land on matters so much, and why PPC for healthcare clinics comes down to one service, one page, and paying for visits instead of clicks.
Spend here if
People search the condition or the treatment by name
It’s urgent, or private enough that they’d never ask a friend
Someone can pick up the phone while the ads run
Skip it if
Almost nobody searches what you do
You’d split $1,200 across ten services
Calls go to voicemail
But what if nobody’s searching? ↓
04Social
Meta & TikTok Ads for Healthcare
Social ads do healthcare lead generation the other way round. Nobody’s searching. We find the people who have the problem and put the answer in front of them while they scroll.
Facebook & Instagram
Bariatrics is the clearest case. Very few people search for weight loss surgery, but when we looked at how many people in the area were dealing with their weight, the need was obviously there. So we skipped Google and went to Facebook and Instagram. Doing the same for a weight loss clinic, we got it down to $11 per lead.
The catch: Meta now limits which booking events health advertisers can send it, so campaigns that lean on a standard pixel stop learning. We send neutral events and keep the patient’s details in a HIPAA compliant CRM, which is enough for Meta to optimise and nothing more.
Spend here if people think about the problem but don’t search for the fix, or the result is something you can show.
TikTok
Worth testing for treatments people are happy to show off: a new smile, clearer skin, body contouring, a weight loss journey. It’s useless for anything private. Nobody films their hemorrhoid treatment.
TikTok only runs medical ads to people 18 and over, cosmetic clinics need to be properly licensed, and its pixel can’t carry health information. Weight loss claims get rejected fast, so the ad shows the journey and lets the patient draw the conclusion.
Test it if the result is visual and your patients skew younger. Skip it for anything urgent or private.

Which platform fits your clinic?
Pick what you treat and where you are. This is the read we start from. Your assessment checks it against the real searches and competitors in your area.

06Found & chosen
Getting found, then getting chosen
Being found gets you the click. Being chosen gets you the patient. Most clinics pay for the first and lose people on the second, which is where healthcare lead generation usually leaks.
How they find you
The platform that fits. Google, Meta or TikTok, picked from your specialty and your area, never all three on day one.
Google Maps. The listing people check before they call, kept accurate and climbing.
Search and AI answers.Healthcare SEO and AEO that make your name the answer while the ads pay the bills, which takes 4 to 6 months to rank.
Why they pick you
A page for the one service they clicked on, not your homepage.
A price range, so the people who were never going to book don’t.

07Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is healthcare lead generation?
It’s getting people who have a problem you treat to raise their hand: call, book, or send their details. For a clinic that usually means ads on the platform where those people already are, with a page and a follow up built to turn the enquiry into a visit. Turning that visit into a patient who goes ahead is patient acquisition.
Should a clinic buy leads from a lead vendor?
We wouldn’t. Bought leads are often sold to more than one clinic, so you’re racing competitors to the same phone number. We build everything inside your own ad accounts, so every lead is yours and so is the data.
How fast do the leads start?
Ads usually bring enquiries in the first week, because the demand is already there. SEO, Google Maps and AI answers take 4 to 6 months to rank in a mildly competitive market, so we run both and let the ads carry the first months.
Can we run Google, Meta and TikTok together?
Eventually, yes. We start with the one that fits your treatment, get it booking reliably, then add the next. Spreading a first budget across three platforms means none of them gets enough to learn.
Is TikTok safe for a medical practice?
It can be. The ads have to target adults, the pixel can’t carry health information, and the treatment has to be something people are comfortable being seen with. For private conditions we don’t use it at all.
